04. Who Even Is Rachel Carrow?
March 1976, a continuation of 'Gone to the Dogs'.
The first thing Rosalie wants to do in the morning is vomit.
Her blonde bob sticks out like a sore thumb, but Rosalie doesn't mind. It's a welcome change to her mascara-stained face from crying over someone who doesn't deserve it — her stupid, good-for-nothing father, Joon Kim, who'd just been murdered in prison.
Joon isn't even causing her nausea; in fact, he hasn't been causing her to cry for weeks, something which she's very proud of herself for.
It's the fact that Rachel Carrow looks like she's gobbling Sirius Black.
"Ew," Acacia says, wrinkling her nose at the sight. Or, well, the nightmare.
Frankly, Rosalie wishes that it's a nightmare. At least she could wake up from it.
"Tell him to stop, Abbott," Drake complains. "This is worse than seeing your face in the morning."
"Shut up!" Acacia hisses heatedly. "The last thing I want to hear is your stupid voice!"
Rosalie massages her brows. "Guys. Please."
"Besides," Acacia continues, calming down, "we aren't even friends."
"Since when?" Rosalie asks, yawning as she scoops out her porridge. "You used to tell me to lay off him all the time."
"He's a dick," the brunette mumbles.
Nodding approvingly, Rosalie pats her best friend. "I'm glad you see it now."
"They weren't doing this before," a blonde — Pippa, Pepper, Paisley? — says offhandedly, neon coloured eyeshadow painting her eyelids. "But it's getting irritating. You three have been skipping breakfast for weeks, but you didn't even miss anything bad. I want to gauge my eyes out with my fork."
Rosalie sighs. The three haven't been skipping; they got breakfast from the Kitchens, insisting on making their own food. It was easier to start teaching the Elves to read, but then Ella, one of the Elves, practically begged them to eat a proper breakfast.
So here they are. Rosalie regrets it dearly.
"I'm sorry about that, Pandora," Acacia says sympathetically. "I feel the same."
Rosalie swears the girl's name is Paisley, not Pandora. But maybe she just has the memory of a goldfish. Combined with her only friends being decently introverted, she doesn't really meet new people.
"It's a terrifying sight," Drake agrees.
Pandora frowns. "Aren't you a Slytherin?"
Drake blankly looks at his tie. "Wow. I didn't know that."
"Oh, very funny."
She turns to someone else, but the trio's eyes are still on the disgusting couple's.
"They're heading this way," Acacia whispers.
"I hate life," Rosalie mumbles. "And I want to puke."
"Wait until Black is here," Drake advises. "Throw up on his shoes."
"Hello, ladies and a snake!" Black greets, and Rosalie mimes gagging. "How are you all doing on this fine morning?"
His girlfriend, Rachel Carrow, waves. Rosalie decides to give her the benefit of the doubt, despite her sucking face with Sirius Black out of all people. Oh, and her glare. She might be glaring, just a little bit.
Nevertheless, Rosalie waves back.
"Terrible," Acacia says bitterly. "We'd be better if you'd go away."
"Stellar comeback, Abbott," Drake mutters.
Acacia punches him on the shoulder.
As Drake winces, Rosalie stirs her porridge, and then almost throws up when Rachel starts snogging him.
"Not in front of my breakfast," Rosalie murmurs sadly.
"I'm not hungry," Acacia states, pushing her food away.
"It's just a kiss," Sirius says when they break apart, although Rosalie can tell that he, for some reason, is embarrassed. And this motherfucker never gets embarrassed.
"Well, it's disgusting, so please do that shit in private, thanks." Rosalie catches Rachel's eyes, which glitter with malice? No, she could be wrong. "Want to go to class now?"
Sirius Black had many girlfriends (and one boyfriend) besides Rachel, but Rosalie can only recall two. One of them wasn't even his girlfriend, but a girl he went on a simple date with in his second year: Mary Macdonald, who was a great DADA partner in her third year. Damini Jain, his other girlfriend she remembers, was super nice to Rosalie, so why shouldn't Rachel? Despite having horrible taste in men, they can be great people.
But when Rachel gives her the stink-eye, Rosalie isn't so sure anymore.
"I don't like her," Acacia announces once the trio is walking to class, having left Rachel Carrow and her obnoxious boyfriend behind.
"Is it because she's a Slytherin?" Drake asks drily.
"Well," Acacia starts, "I don't like you and you're a Slytherin, so maybe —"
"Guys," Rosalie mutters. "I think she doesn't like me."
"Of course she doesn't," Rosalie's best friend begins tersely. "Carrow sees you as competition."
"Me?" Rosalie asks, before she mimes retching. "God, no. She can keep him. And keep him far, far away from me, too."
Rachel Carrow does indeed keep Sirius, but not far away from her.
Everywhere, Rosalie sees them snogging, as if Rachel sees Rosalie and then just suddenly gains the urge to eat her boyfriend's face. In public.
"He's my boyfriend," Rachel announces as Rosalie and Sirius argue about her new commentator position.
"Thank God for that; please keep him away from me," is Rosalie's response, even though it seems to piss Rachel off. "Or not, if you don't want to."
Rachel huffs, storming away. Sirius wipes his lips, glances at Rosalie, and then follows after her, looking frustrated. Rosalie can't blame him; she, too, would be frustrated if she had his personality.

"I heard they broke up," Acacia says with glee, practically skipping across the hallways. Her hand grips Rosalie's, and she drags the other girl forward. "I'm glad. It was torture watching them."
Drake frowns. "It was one week, Abbott."
"You were also complaining," she points out. "And it was two. We just ate breakfast in the Kitchens for the first week."
"They only started snogging heatedly in the second week," a voice says. The trio jumps, turning to see Marlene Mckinnon's older sister, Maisie. "You know, once Edson showed up."
"She was jealous," Acacia agrees.
Rosalie sighs. "She shouldn't have been. And she's not —"
"That bad?" Drake finishes. "She dumped water on you."
"On accident!" Rosalie defends, cheeks flushed.
"I don't know," Maisie ponders. "I think she's into you, Edson. Maybe Sirius is the one with competition."
She walks away, and Rosalie does not know what to say about that.

"Hey, Black!" A panting Maisie catches up with him, the courtyard littered with tired students. "A word?"
"Mckinnon!" he greets cheerfully, clapping on the shoulder. "Here to steal one of my girlfriends again?"
She smirks. "Not this time."
He gasps. "That's rude, darling. I miss Damini."
"No, you don't," Maisie says knowingly.
"No, I don't," he agrees, his signature half-smile on his perfect face. "What do you need, Mckinnon?"
"Well —" Maisie begins.
"What do we have here?" an angry voice sounds. "You told me not to worry, Sirius!"
"Rachel, darling," Sirius begins, his expression agitated, "it's not —"
"I don't even like men," Maisie points out helpfully.
Rachel flushes. "Stop lying, Mckinnon. We all know you're into him."
"Who's we?" she asks, flabbergasted. "I literally dated his ex-girlfriend."
"How is Damini, by the way?" Sirius asks conversationally.
Maisie grins. "Oh, she's going to speak at graduation, and I heard she's into this bottle-blonde named Lina Wood —"
"Shut up!" Rachel snaps. "I know you cheated on me —"
Sirius rolls his eyes. "Rosalie's like the least attractive girl in the school, Rachel. You may be crazy, but no one's crazier than that —"
"She is pretty, Black," Maisie muses, and Rachel's eye twitches. "Don't lie."
"Shut your mouth, Mudblood!" Rachel shrieks.
Everyone's attention is on the triad, now.
"Oh, fuck you!" Maisie snarls, but is pulled back by a curly-haired girl.
"I don't think your ex-boyfriend appreciates that word, Carrow," Seraphina Selwyn states, her eyes almost emotionless. Rachel flinches. "As a matter of fact, none of us here do."
"Rachel, leave." Sirius's voice is tight. "We're done here, like we were done weeks ago."
"You just love Mudbloods, don't you?" she continues, eyes wild. "First Rosalie Edson, and now —"
A slap resounds in the open ground. Gasps echo through the crowd as they stare at Rachel's now-bruised face. Maisie pulls back her hand, eyes brimming with hatred.
"I'll do it again, gladly," she says loudly. "Go away, Rachel."
She obeys, and the crowd stares after her trailing figure.
"Fuck," Ashley Love says, running to her friend. "I would've slapped her myself, but Seraphina told me to stay put, or else —"
"It's okay, Ash." Maisie pats her friend's head. "I took care of it."
"Don't pat me," Ashley grumbles.
Maisie grins, flicking her on the head. "Yes, ma'am."
this was all over the place BUT if you don't remember, Maisie Mckinnon is Marlene's older sister and Yvonne (from Sparrow's) ex-gf!!! and she stole Sirius's ex-gf but that's another thing
oh, and Rachel Carrow is also Sirius's ex-gf! she's referenced a couple times in the fic, but not by an insane amount. the whole incident in the third scene is referenced in hellfire chapter 23 (and in a future spinoff but you didn't hear that from me)!!
also seraphinaaaaa <3333 her story will be coming soon i swear!! it's a regulus black x oc and FAR less complicated than the mess of this story
